How to Wash Your Batik
Natural Dyed Batik
- Handwash like coloured batiks together.
- Fill a bucket or tub with cold water. Add 1 tsp. or more of lerak soap or a bundle of lerak seeds, depending on how many items you want to wash. The ratio is about 5-6 lerak seeds for 6-7 kg of clothes. Approximately, 1 lerak for 1 kg of clothes.
- Swish the water to get some suds, and then drop your batiks in and let them soak for a few minutes.
- Swish your batik to run the soapy water through them.
- Rinse your items well with cold, running water. Don't worry about any dye that escapes. This is natural.
- Dry away from direct heat and sunlight.
Synthetic Dyed Batik
- Handwash like coloured batik together.
- Fill a bucket or tub with cold water. Add 1 tsp. or more of soap, depending on how many items you want to wash.
- Use gentle laundry soaps that does not contain bleach, fragrance, or other additives.
For an eco-friendly option, you could also wash your batiks with lerak soaps or lerak seeds. - Swish the water to get some suds, and then drop your batiks in and let them soak for a few minutes.
- Swish your batik to run the soapy water through them.
- Rinse your items well with cold, running water. Don't worry about any dye that escapes. This is natural.
